Abstract
ABSTRACTThe role of a dance educator is complex. On any given day one might carry the title of educator, artist, choreographer, or scholar, to name a few. In my experiences as a teacher in public school, community, studio, and higher education settings, I have developed the choreographic and artistic processes that I employ as a working artist. Reciprocally, my creative processes as a working artist, particularly those of improvisational practice, have solidified and strengthened my role as an educator. In this article, I share choreographic and pedagogical methods used both in the classroom and professional realm, which reflect the interweaving of these artist and educator roles in my life, and now manifest in a combination of creative and pedagogical research in my position as a professor in dance.
