Summary

Introduction

Elders who live longer are more likely to develop chronic noncommunicable diseases that can cause functional and, economic and family dependence[1]. Disability encompasses the impairments and limitations of activity or restrictions in a person’s life, so as to involve a dynamic interaction between health conditions and contextual factors, including personal and environmental factors that represent the history and lifestyle of an individual. It is not an individual attribute, but a complex set of conditions that requires interaction of several factors and family support[2]. National and international researchers have identified that in home care for dependent elders, bathing is generally the activity of daily living that most causes problems in elders’and their caregivers’/ family members’lives[3,4]. Having the support of relatives or home care services can generate feelings of shame and helplessness[5]
