Abstract

'There is virtually no area of repetitive industrial action that cannot be automated through the application of electronic technology'. This statement from the report2 of the Electronics Economic Development Committee working group on scientific and technological manpower illustrates the central part to be played by the electronics industry, and the electronic technician in particular, in the future and yet we are already seriously short of technicians.
