Abstract

Comprehensive social changes, the process of globalization based on the principles of neoliberal ideology and the revolution in information technologies have fundamentally changed the conditions in which the educational system and science operate. Despite the series of negative consequences caused by the current commodification of education and scientific knowledge, within the Serbian academic community for a long time there was no reasoned discussion about these important changes that occurred during the past two decades. Bearing in mind the mentioned fact, the paper critically analyzes four recently published collections of works and the results of an empirical research that thematizes certain aspects of education, the role of the university, the results of the so-called ?Bologna reforms?, the position of social sciences and humanities and their importance for national culture and identity.
