Abstract

Organized efforts to promote cancer research and education and to make more easily available means for the diagnosis and treatment of the disease are not lacking. The last year has seen the establishment of two new journals—or more accurately, the enlargement of two old journals—which will cover all phases of the subject, and which, through the generosity of The Chemical Foundation of New York, are well within the reach of every physician who assumes the responsibility, in any way, of controlling cancer. These journals are The American Journal of Cancer , continuing the earlier Journal of Cancer Research, and Radiology , the official organ of the Radiological Society of North America. The American College of Surgeons, which has done so much for the standardization of hospitals throughout the country, is directing an endeavor to establish a diagnostic and therapeutic cancer clinic in every standardized hospital in the country, while the new National Institute of Health, now a part of the U. S. Public Health Service, is preparing, with more ample funds, to extend the research work formerly carried on under the direction of the latter body. The stimulus of this new effort of the government to aid medical research will undoubtedly be reflected in research laboratories and medical schools throughout the country.
