Abstract
In 2012, the Mexican federal government encouraged the establishment of an educational reform. Teacher unions claimed the reform lacked legitimacy because they had never been consulted. From 2013 to 2016, there were several offline and online protests. The purpose of this report is to study how the popularity of social media has increased the potential for spreading alternative discourse as a subaltern weapon, giving teachers an option to fight back.
