Abstract

Starting with this January 1999 issue, we introduce a number of changes to the appearance of Physiologia Plantarum. The format is now larger and we have a new and more colourful cover. The cover picture will be different for each issue, and when appropriate it will be taken from one of the papers in the issue. The cover of this first issue is intended to reflect the broad coverage of experimental plant sciences in our journal. We also wish to increase the number of colour pictures inside the journal, and have therefore reduced the cost for authors to 500 USD for the first picture and 100 USD for each additional picture. A number of changes can also be found inside the journal. The lay-out of the first page of the papers has been changed with the aim to make it easier for both readers and authors. All information on authors and their addresses is presented in one place, immediately following the title. The reference style has also been simplified by omitting almost all punctuation marks. Physiologia Plantarum will soon be available on the net. All subscribers will have free access to the electronic version and can read, search, and download articles. Others may read abstracts and it will be possible to buy single articles. A number of issues will also be available as free sample copies. Our intention is to increase the number of invited minireviews on the latest developments on all subjects covered by the journal. Suggestions from our readers of interesting subjects for minireviews are welcome. Our ambition is to increase the standard of Physiologia Plantarum and to consolidate its position as one of the leading international journals of experimental plant sciences.Per GardeströmEditor-in-Chief
