Current Opinion in Organ Transplantation was launched in 1996. It is part of a successful series of review journals whose unique format is designed to provide a systematic and critical assessment of the literature as presented in the many primary journals. The field of organ transplantation is divided into 18 sections that are reviewed once a year. Each section is assigned a Section Editor, a leading authority in the area, who identifies the most important topics at that time. Here we are pleased to introduce the Section Editors for this issue. Section Editors Christophe LegendreChristophe LegendreChristophe Legendre, MD, is a transplant Physician and Head of the Adult Kidney Transplant Unit at Necker hospital, Paris, France and Professor of Nephrology at the Université Paris Descartes in Paris, France. Dr Christophe Legendre began Medical School at Lille, France, and earned his MD degree and his Nephrology specialty in 1986 at Montpellier, France. He spent 3 years (1983–1986) at McGill University in Montreal, Canada as a fellow in the Immunogenetics laboratory directed by Ron D. Guttmann and completed a Master of Sciences in Immunology. He was appointed at Necker Hospital in Paris and became Assistant Professor of Nephrology in 1992. He then moved to Saint Louis Hospital, St Louis, USA as the head of the Nephrology unit in 1997 and finally came back to Necker Hospital in 2004. Dr Legendre has been author or co-author of around 300 articles in peer-reviewed journals in the field of clinical kidney transplantation. His main scientific interests are viral infections (CMV, HHV-8, HBV, HCV) in transplant recipients, evaluation of new immunosuppressive drugs, screening kidney biopsies, high immunological risk recipients and recurrence of native kidney disease after transplantation (HUS, FSGS, anti-phospholipid syndrome etc). He currently serves as Associate Editor of the American Journal of Transplantation and is responsible for the Hesperis Course in the Educational Comittee of the European Society of Organ Transplantation. Thierry BerneyThierry BerneyDr Berney is a Professor of Surgery at the University of Geneva School of Medicine, Geneva, Switzerland and an attending Surgeon in the division of Visceral and Transplantation Surgery at Geneva University Hospitals, Switzerland. He graduated from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Switzerland, where he received an MSc degree in 1981, and from the University Of Geneva School Of Medicine in 1987. He specialized in Visceral Surgery in Switzerland. He further specialized in transplantation surgery in Brussels, Belgium and Miami, Florida, with a particular interest in islet, pancreas and small bowel transplantation. Since 2002, he has been the Head of the Cell Isolation and Transplantation Center and the Director of the Islet and Pancreas Transplant Programs at Geneva University Hospitals. The Geneva Islet Transplantation Program is one of the most active worldwide thanks to its participation to the GRAGIL consortium, a Swiss-French collaborative network of clinical islet transplantation. He is a member of several surgical and transplantation societies. He has served as Councilor of the International Pancreas and Islet Transplantation Association (IPITA) since 2005, and is the current Treasurer of this Society. Since 2007, he has been the founding Chairman of the European Pancreas and Islet Transplantation Association (EPITA) and sits on the Council of the European Society for Organ Transplantation (ESOT). He sits on the Editorial Board of several journals. His research interests include islet cell biology, islet graft imaging and anti-inflammatory strategies to improve islet engraftment. He is the author of more than 200 articles and book chapters.
