Abstract

With the introduction of current artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) model AMS 800 with narrow back cuff, we have been seeing fewer mechanical failures or fluid loss in the system. Urethral atrophy still remains the most common cause of recurrent stress urinary incontinence after AUS implantation. Loss of fluid can occur if there is break in the silicone tubing or fluid is nonisotonic, which can lead to transfer of fluid across silicone membrane. To simplify this, normal saline is now recommended to fill pressure-regulating balloon (PRB).
