Abstract

The authors note in their introduction that despite increases in women in urology, women remain underrepresented in the urology workforce and this underrepresentation is most prevalent among older urologists. It is therefore not surprising that women are underrepresented in prestigious recognition awards in the American Urological Association (AUA), particularly since many of the awards are targeted at those individuals who have made sustained career achievements and are therefore older. Fortunately there are steps that the AUA is making to improve this and all urologists who are members of the AUA can also work to impart change to improve gender equity in the awards process.
