Abstract
In this important and timely paper, the authors appropriately highlight a gender disparity in those receiving awards bestowed by the American Urological Association. I congratulate the authors for taking on this important topic. Over an extended period from 1963 to 2020 only 6.9% of award recipients were women and when non MD awardees are excluded, the proportion is even less. Of course for the first three decades of the study period there were few women urologists and as they report even in 1995 only 1.2% of practicing urologists were women. Nonetheless, even in more recent history {2019} with 9.5% of the urology workforce being comprised of women, the numbers receiving prestigious AUA awards continues to lag. There is more work to be done!
