Abstract
To date, little has been published on the impact of High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) for prostate cancer on the development of postoperative urethral strictures/stenoses, their characteristics, and treatment outcomes. In this study, the authors attempt to address this knowledge gap. Previous literature has demonstrated a wide incidence for post-HIFU strictures/stenoses ranging from 1.9% to 40.3%.1 More recent larger series of HIFU patients reveal a stricture rate of roughly 10% to 20%, which would suggest a higher frequency of urethral strictures following HIFU than radiation.
