Abstract

Comparison of observed speeds of spreading of anomalous glow discharges with those calculated for ion drift motion by treating the diffuse edge as equivalent to an intermediate sharp edge, supports a previous conjecture that the diffuseness decreases rapidly as the cathode fall is raised above normal. Lines along which further experimental and theoretical work might proceed are indicated.
