Abstract

A bias electrode was introduced into the HL-1 edge plasma and a triple Langmuir probe was used to investigate the evolution of the relevant edge plasma behavior. It was derived that the electrode biased positively acted in the way to reduce the edge plasma density and edge electron temperature and to suppress their fluctuations and the fluctuation of plasma potential in the edge region, accompanied by an enhancement of the global confinement of the bulk plasma.
