Abstract

Primary core and solid secondary eddy-current losses are determined in the electromagnetic topology of a tubular linear induction motor (TLIM). The nonlinear B-H characteristic, hysteresis and skin effect are considered in deriving formulas for eddy-current losses. A means to reduce these losses in the primary core laminations is presented. In addition, techniques for parameter determination of the equivalent circuit and performance predictions are developed by extending the theory presented in the paper. Experimental results show good agreement with calculated values. >
