Abstract

One louse, 6 flea, 8 mite and 4 tick species were recovered from 14 Ringtails, Bassariscus astutus , collected from several localities in Central and West Texas. Hosts were infested with from 1 to 7 species of ectoparasites. Malaraeus sinomus, Anomiopsyllus nudatus, Orchopeas sexdentatus subspecies #1 and #2, Polygenis gwyni, Euschoengastia eadsi, Pseudoschoengastia apista, Eucheyletia hardyi, Cheyletus eruditus, Dermacarus hypudaei, Hirstionyssus breviseta, H. staffordi, Androlaelaps fahrenholzi, Dermacentor variabilis, Ixodes conepati , and Haemaphysalis leporispalustris are new host records for the Ringtail. Only the louse Neotrichodectes thoracicus appears to be host-specific.
