Abstract

Sigma 32 of Escherichia coli, encoded by the rpoH gene, is a transcription factor enabling RNA polymerase to recognize promoters of heat shock genes. The rpoH gene was cloned in the bacteriophage T7 RNA polymerase/promoter system and expressed in the E. coli ftsH mutant. In this, heat-inducible and economical system, we obtained overproduction of sigma32 and the purified protein was active in the in vitro transcription assay. © Rapid Science Ltd. 1998
