Abstract
Natural resource assets are a critical material foundation for national economic growth, and their use has a bearing on the security of economic development and national security. As the conflict between demand of resources and ecological problems become more and more serious, it is urgent to investigate the connection between natural resource assets, economic growth and economic security. Our study investigates the mechanism among the three based on natural resource asset accounting methods, and analyses the existing research results in terms of energy, minerals, sea, land, forests and water resources, and draws the following research conclusions: there is insufficient theoretical backing for the creation of a natural resource balance sheet, there is no consistent analytical framework for the connection between various resource kinds and economic process. Research on natural resource assets for overall economic security is lacking, and there is a lack of an analytical framework for an effective natural resource use system that is in line with China's national conditions.
