Abstract

During 1972, preparations were made for carrying out, in 1973, the first over-all review and appraisal of progress in the implementation of the International Development Strategy for the Second United Nations Development Decade. In accordance with the General Assembly’s decisions of 24 October 1970, such an evaluation was to be carried out biennially by the Assembly through the Economic and Social Council. The Committee on Review and Appraisal, an inter-governmental body of 54 members established by the Council in 1971 to discharge the Council’s review and appraisal responsibilities held its first session in 1972.
