Abstract

On 24 October 1970, celebrating the twentyfifth anniversary of the United Nations, the General Assembly proclaimed the Second United Nations Development Decade, starting from 1 January 1971, and adopted an International Development Strategy for the Decade. The Strategy was the result of two years of work by a Preparatory Committee set up by the General Assembly in 1968 and assisted by the Economic and Social Council’s Committee for Development Planning and other United Nations bodies.
