Abstract

The eighth session of the Economic and Social Council was held at Lake Success from February 7 to March 18, 1949, to consider an agenda of 53 items. At the Council's first meeting James Thorn (New Zealand) was elected as president for 1949, while V. V. Skorobogaty (Byelorussian SSR) was chosen as first vicepresident and Carlos Eduardo Stolk (Venezuela) as second vice-president.
