Abstract
The study of the functions of the state is one of the most important directions for the development of modern theoretical and legal doctrine. In this direction, it is of particular importance to revise the understanding, specifics, essential characteristics and directions of further transformation of the ecological function of the state. Attention to the analysis of this function is not accidental, it has great scientific and applied significance. This study considers the modern understanding of the ecological function of the state, the search for certainty in the variable trends of the terminology series. Based on the consideration of problematic aspects of this topic, the concept of the ecological function of the state is proposed as the main integrated direction of the state›s activity, expressing its essence and social purpose, ensuring the rational use of natural resources, environmental protection, environmental safety and the implementation of a sustainable development strategy in the environmental protection of law. The analysis makes it possible to formulate the most important prospects for the development of the ecological function of the state, which should include the following provisions. Firstly, this is the expansion of the content of the ecological function of the state due to the emergence of new promising directions of interaction between the state and society in the context of ensuring a sustainable development strategy. Secondly, the development of interstate interaction in the process of implementing the ecological function of the state. Thirdly, the development of the interaction of the state and public institutions. Fourth, the development of law’s ecologisation. Fifth, the development of the legal form of the implementation of the ecological function of the state. In this regard, the active formation of an ecological technical and legal culture should be especially noted.
