Abstract
The cognitive model of eating disorders claims that eating disorder sufferers differ from other individuals with respect to the processing of food, body shape, and weight related stimuli. Employing tasks derived from experimental cognitive psychology, researchers have produced evidence to suggest that both anorexic and bulimic patients selectively attend to such stimuli. Despite the consistency of these findings, there are methodological problems that afflict this area of research and many unanswered questions. These issues are critically reviewed in the present paper.
