Abstract

This edition is issued because new data and concepts have developed during the past four years. Like most seconds or revisions, it is a little larger (39 pages) and a shade more expensive (55 cents) than the first. Like it, this edition is warmly recommended to physicians and their palate-conscious patients whose interests bear on the related problems of obesity and atherogenesis and who agree with, or need, a relatively dogmatic approach plus some oversimplification of a very complex subject. This edition, unlike the first, has a background in semiofficial recommendations by the American Heart Association (1961) and the AMA Council on Foods (1962). Both statements bore primarily on associations of dietary fat and arterial disease and were alike belated and highly conservative.
