Abstract

In Brief Objective: We report a case series of midurethral vaginal sling procedures (Boston Scientific Advantage midurethral sling and U.S. Surgical IVS Tunneller) complicated by bladder perforation. We propose removal of the Foley catheter is possible as early as 3 days after trocar injury to the bladder. Methods: The cystogram was accomplished according to the Department of Radiology's protocol on postoperative day 3 after bladder perforation. Results: All 5 patients had an intact bladder when filled with contrast and passed their voiding trial. Conclusion: Bladder perforation is one of the most common midurethral sling procedure-related complications. Fortunately, there are minimal long-term sequelae after bladder perforation. However, there is a paucity of data regarding management guidelines for this frequent problem. Indwelling catheter drainage can be safely removed as early as postoperative day 3 as demonstrated with radiologic testing. The Foley catheter can safely be removed as early as postoperative day 3 after bladder perforation with a midurethral sling trocar.
