Abstract
The purpose of this study is to develop the technique to decompose fluorocarbons instantaneously by a shock wave using exhaust steam. In the first step, we investigated on the decomposition rate of the chlorofluorocarbon 12 using the shock wave induced by propane-oxygen detonation. In this study, we paid attention to the effect of the carbon dioxide concentration and the moisture on the decomposition characteristic of chlorofluorocarbon 12. As a result, we obtained 99.9% of the highest chlorofluorocarbon 12 decomposition rate in 1800K. And we found that the carbon dioxide concentration and the moisture are important parameters in chlorofluorocarbon 12 decomposition.
