Abstract

The advancement in information technology has revolutionized the publishing industry to the extent that world over the publishing houses specially those which are in the field of scientific journals have adopted the route of e-journals over print journals. It becomes common to distribute books, magazines, and newspapers to consumers through tablet reading devices. The market that is growing leaps and bounds, is created by vendors such as Apple's iTunes bookstore, Amazon's bookstore for Kindle, and books in the Google Play Bookstore. So, while the explosion of e-book has radically changed the marketplace, digital access has also changed the face of the conventional library. Today, a reader prefers reading books and journals on their personal devices in their own comfort zone and chosen time zone, rather, visiting a library. The speed and bandwidth of the Internet which has reached 5-10 mbps at the minimum, has further fueled the growth of e-books. Efforts to reach to next level of the truly open and interactive digital library of knowledge has also been taken in the right earnest by leading IT giants and publishing houses. The paper is an attempt to share the experience of the author in providing end-toend guidelines on creating an e-book in varied formats, and how these formats can be make able to reflow to suit various displays and incorporation of special effects to make e-reading a real life experience equivalent to reading a book physically.
