Abstract

The pharmacological tests presented in the first part of this work clearly indicate the beneficial effect of propolis extracts and their components on the heart and blood vessels. The propolis extracts and the components present in them, such as caffeic acid phenylethylester (CAPE), artepillin and pinocembrin, are characterized by multidirectional effects on the heart and blood vessels. The publications cited earlier indicate that propolis extracts direct impact on the heart, and confirmed anti-ischemic activity, diastolic blood vessel activity, preventing hypertrophy of vessels, inhibiting blood capillary permeability, lowering blood pressure, preventing cardiomyopathy as well as hypolipemia. This part of the paper discusses anticoagulant, anti-angiogenic activity of propolis extracts and prevention of ischemic necrosis of the brain tissue. On the basis of the provided pharmacological research data, it can be assumed that the described properties of propolis extracts and substances isolated from them will contribute to the application of these products in the treatment of heart and blood vessel diseases.
