Abstract

This paper presents a historical figure of Hipolit Cegielski (1813-1868), a Polish entrepreneur and philologist, and analyzes his past terminological work (creation, development and maintenance of terminology of agricultural machinery) within a current framework of specialized communication. The analysis was conducted on four levels: the level of communicative acts, the level of agents, the level of microcommunity, the level of macrocommunity (Schubert 2007). The aim of the paper is to identify the facets of terminological work in a societal frame of reference.
