Abstract

Dyspnea due to thyroid storm in an emergency service Thyroid storm (TS) is a metabolic condition which is usually seen in patients with undiagnosed or poorly-treated hyperthyroid diseases. Although this condition is a common metabolic condition, the incidence of TS in emergency services is rare. Even though there has been advancement in treatment modalities, TS still has a mortality rate of 20-40%. This high mortality and morbidity rate could be reduced by early diagnosis and treatment. Here in we present a TS patient admitted to our emergency service due to dyspnea. (JAEM 2012; 11: 128-9)
