Abstract

The previous chapter’s section on trends in reading disability research differentiated between the two main trends in past dyslexia research, the medical and the educational-psychological. There are some rather clear-cut differences in these trends, especially with regard to etiology. The relatively brief discussion of the main trends in dyslexia research finished with a short discussion of the possibilities connected with the typological studies that have taken place in recent years. Gjessing’s early and long-lasting contributions and continued interest were briefly described.
