Abstract
Dynamic behaviour of water molecules lying in the interlamellar pores of saponite clay is studied using quasielastic neutron scattering and positron annihilation spectroscopy techniques. Mobility and freezing behaviour of water molecules indicated that the water molecules close to the surface of the layer behaves differently than the water molecules away from the surface below bulk water freezing temperature. However, at higher temperature, they are found to be dynamically equivalent and perform hindered diffusion within interlamellar pores of saponite clay.
