Abstract

Mowing, animal load, mineral or organic fertilisation, animal species, and exploitation time are the main variables of management that direct the vegetation dynamics of a pasture. Observations on the grassy cover and on the management (mowing, grazing) were made between 2004 and 2007, on a pasture in which Festuca pretensis (Huds.) was the dominant species. Vegetation was determined by the double meter method (Daget and Possonet, 1977) on the basis of data from botanical sampling. Restricting occasional grazing and diminishing the number of mowing in the four analysed years resulted in a certain direction of development; thus, the most advantages species belong to the Family Astereceae while the species belonging to the Families Poacea and Fabaceae have smaller and smaller coverings, being unfavoured.
