Abstract

Abstract Aiming at the investigation of fission of hot nuclei in a situation where shell effects are not yet melted a method is developed which allows to match a dynamical (Langevin-Monte Carlo) and a statistical treatment of the thermal decay of a metastable system in the presence of a multiple-humped barrier. Novel analytical formulae for the quasistationary decay rate without and with a competing mode (e.g. neutron emission) are derived. These formulae are shown to be in agreement with the long-time limit of the corresponding dynamical decay rates obtained by means of Langevin-Monte Carlo simulation.
