Abstract

The classical trajectory technique has been used to analyse the thermoneutral oxygen atom exchange reaction at a microscopic level. The calculations show that a direct exchange mechanism makes the major contribution to the reactive cross section, and that very few reactions proceed via long-lived complexes. The calculated macroscopic rate constants at 300 and 500 K are in good agreement with the experimental results.
