Abstract

In the present paper the results of experimental tests on the development of surface discharges in liquid nitrogen under a strongly non-uniform field in a point-plane electrode system are presented. On the basis of the discharge figures obtained on photographic film sheets with high voltage pulses of different duration, the average velocities of the development of positive and negative discharges have been calculated. Differences in the shape and structure of positive and negative discharge figures have been also described.
