Abstract
In Germany, much like in other countries, designated governmental agencies are responsible for sustaining safety on waterways. This entails services to check and maintain certain conditions that are, time and again, altered by water movement and sedimentation. In estuaries scientific aspects of the problem are especially important due to close relation to economic consequences: stretches of waterways constantly require costly dredging.
