Abstract

The study examines the conditions and stages of formation of a new type of art institutions in Lviv since the late 1980s, during the period of loosening of ideological restriction by the state. This gave impetus to development of a number of youth initiatives, creative associations and galleries. The pluralism of the artistic community that contributed to the emergence of associations of different artistic (and not only) values, was outlined. The influence of individuals, artists and curators (on the formation of a new art system, as an alternative controlled by the Union of Artists of the USSR) was analyzed. The activity of the twenty-first century art institutions, their features and projects were studied that enabled discovering the patterns of the present-day development of the art infrastructure of Lviv.
