Abstract

Software Radio, considered as a new technology for wireless communication area, implements various communication standards on a uniform hardware by moving calculational tasks onto Digital Signal Processor (DSP). As a result, demanding for DSP's calculational capabilities is growing and general purpose DSPs is incompetent for the works. In addition, general purpose DSPs' power and cost are not satisfying while using in software radio. Based on researching various kinds of arithmetic together, this article presents a novel dynamically reconfigurable instruction set for software radio encoding and coding. The application-specific system supplies high computational performance. The instruction set economizes area and reduces power consumption by dynamic reconfiguration. The system is aimed at satisfying requirements of software radio.
