Abstract

Energy distributions of emitted electrons from the processes of Auger neutralization of positive ions and Auger de-excitation of metastable atoms in collisions of these particles with solid surfaces are derived by using the eigenstate expansion method for solving the two-electron Auger problem. The analytic results for the Auger electron energy distributions, obtained in the low- and high-velocity collision limits, are in qualitative agreement with the results of Hagstrum's phenomenological theory.
