Abstract
A dynamic theory of open cross section composite thin-walled beams is presented. The theory is quite general in the sense that it is valid for any laminate stacking sequence and boundary conditions. Moreover, a number of non-classical effects such as the transverse shear flexibility and warping restraint are incorporated. As a special case, the eigenvibration problem of composite I-beams is analyzed. In this context, a powerful analytical methodology enabling one to solve the problem for a variety of boundary conditions is devised. Pertinent conclusions on the implications of the various effects are emphasized.
