Abstract

We examine the motion of an isolated spherical colloid particle with a dynamic Stern layer, subject to an oscillating electric field, and obtain the electrophoretic mobility correct toO(ζ). It is shown that the Stern layer results are formally similar to those for thin double layers. From this, an approximation is derived for the Stern layer contribution to the conductivity and mobility of particles with thin double layers and high surface potentials.
