Abstract
This paper presents a numerical analysis of Fiber Metal Laminate thin-walled column behaviour under dynamic pulse loading. Structural resistance to dynamic pulse loading was assessed by applying two types of criteria: dynamic stability and failure criteria. The FE model was created to take into consideration delamination failure between laminate layers. Contact elements were implemented to solve this problem within the frame of a three-dimensional model. Therefore, it was possible to analyse the FML column dynamic stability by considering all failure mechanisms at the meso-mechanical level, i.e. aluminium yielding, fiber and matrix failure modes, and layer debonding.
