Abstract

The dynamic simulation of pulsed electroacoustic (PEA) signals has been conducted by the recursive convolution finite-difference time-domain (RC-FDTD) method, in which acoustic attenuation in low-density polyethylene (LDPE) is calculated on the basis of viscoelastic theory. This method allows us to quantitatively analyze the distortion of the waveform in an LDPE film resulting from the acoustic attenuation. The RC-FDTD method can easily visualize the propagation, reflection, and attenuation of the acoustic waves in the LDPE film. Furthermore, the attenuated space charge profiles in the LDPE film are also calculated by the RC-FDTD method.
