Abstract
A simulation of an Induction Generator (IG) based Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS) is presented for grid connected operation. The Power Conversion System (PCS) comprised of a bridge rectifier, an intermediate boost converter integrated with a grid connected inverter. The control of wind turbine is performed by a maximum power point tracking controller for below rated wind speed and pitch control is activated during the above rated wind speed. The maximum power produced by the wind turbine is transferred to the grid by controlling the boost converter duty cycle that eventually controls the inverter modulation index in order to ensure maximum power extraction to the grid. The simulation of the WECS ensures the effectiveness of the control strategy and could be an optimum choice for grid connected WECS applications.
