Abstract

The dynamic evolution of shapes in the interacting boson model is investigated using the angular momentum projected mean field theory. The standard sd model with one-and two-body interactions is shown to have a static nature in that no shape transitions occur with increasing spin. In contrast, the sdg model is found to exhibit shape transitions for certain ranges of the quadrupole parameters appropriate to the transitional nuclei. Conditions of existence and experimental signatures for dynamic shape transitions are discussed together with a likely candidate, 192Os.
