Abstract

Dynamic multipoint virtual private network (DMVPN) allows IPsec VPN networks to better scale hub-to-spoke and spoke-to-spoke designs, thereby optimizing performance and reducing latency for communications between sites. DMVPN is a technology that integrates different concepts such as Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE), IPsec encryption, Next-Hop Resolution Protocol (NHRP) and Routing to provide a sophisticated solution that allows the end users to communicate effectively through static hob-to-spoke and the dynamically created spoke-to-spoke IPsec tunnels. Thus, selecting the best routing protocol by considering different selection criterion becomes important during the network planning phase. So far most existing work uses RIP (Routing Information Protocol) for small network and EIGRP (Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol) for large network for spoke-to-spoke topology. In this paper, we analyse and evaluate which routing protocols used for Dual Hub Dual DMVPN hub-to-spoke connection ensures the least delay and jitter value, convergence time and link utilization. The simulation was done by OPENT MODELER 16.1 and the result shows that OSPF and EIGRP are the best routes to implement secure enterprise network based on Dual hub Dual DMVPN hub-to-spoke topology.
