Abstract

Abstract An assembly using high-velocity impact of a plastic or steel projectile on a water chamber was designed for punching holes in the wall of a metal pipe. The impulsive hydraulic pressure obtained via high-velocity impact of the projectile was not sufficiently high to generate a strong shock wave, but the pressure was sufficient to punch some holes in an aluminium pipe. Attempts were made to punch holes in the wall of a pipe under various conditions and the conditions required for punching holes were investigated.
