Abstract

The effects of oil inlet position and oil supply pressure on the dynamic characteristics of flexible full journal bearings are analysed. The parameters, three oil-feeding pressure, two oil inlet positions and two linear compliant coefficients, are used to show their effects on dynamic characteristics. The non-linear Reynolds equation is solved using the finite difference method and the Newton-Raphson method. The study shows that the parameters have significant effects on the eight dynamic coefficients and bearing stability. It is found that the combined effect of the parameters on the dynamic properties should be taken into account simultaneously. The study further reveals that the stiffness coefficients, K ̄ xx and K ̄ xy , are much influenced by the flexibility in addition to the large variation in damping coefficients also found in previous work.
