Abstract

The precipitation behavior during equal-channel angular pressing (ECAP) performed at room temperature and 175 °C in an Al–Mg–Si alloy has been investigated. Dynamic precipitation was in fact observed during severe plastic deformation at both temperatures and reasons for dynamic precipitation were analyzed and compared with that in conventional static aging. The interaction between precipitates and dislocations was investigated and strengthening mechanisms were discussed.
